During my free time, most of the time I spend reading books π. But recently, without considering differences such as religion ✝️☸️π️☪️, race, or language, I started watching different kinds of films π️π½️ and short films π¦. Honestly, it is very enjoyable. Just like books, I realized that there are many things we can learn from films as well.
Alright then, now let’s see what this “something new” is π
“Two-Storey School” π« is a beautiful film that I watched with both happiness and sadness π«π£ from beginning to end. Especially because I am also someone who grew up in a village since childhood, I could relate to it deeply.
This film was created on 17th February 2023 and directed by Lalith Rohitha. The main character is “Banda”, and “Soma” is another important character around him.

In reality, we often only see the beauty of villages π³π. But when we look deeper, we can see that the people living there, especially the children, go through very difficult πͺ and harsh lives.
This film shows how, after the village school was closed, a village elder teaches children how to read and write ✍️. Most importantly, it shows how a young boy named Banda, who grows up without his parents πͺ️ under the care of his stepmother, leaves the village, succeeds in life, and later returns to his hometown π.
From childhood, Soma was unable to express her loving feelings to Banda π₯Ή.
“Thank you so much. That day, you were the only one who didn’t laugh at me…” π₯Ή
This is one of my favorite lines.
Soma waited a long time for Banda. Another touching detail is how Soma secretly prepares kurakkan roti π« for Banda every day and hides it for him.
At the end of the film, when Banda returns to the village school as a special guest, Soma has become a teacher π.
“Banda, do you only remember the tamarind tree?”
“Soma”
These words feel magical—truly beautiful.
This film teaches us to love the environment, be courageous, never give up, understand sensitive hearts, and recognize both kindness and cruelty in people. It gives a strong message about life and learning.
It can truly be presented as an outstanding creation π.
